This update makes it easier to organize and protect your photo collection. You can now find similar photos, import directly from memory cards, save keywords inside your image files and back up your catalogue. Dehaze, Shadows, Highlights and tone curves have also been improved for more natural results:
- A new gallery view helps you find photos that look almost identical, such as several shots from the same series. Similar photos are grouped together, with a sharpness indicator for each one and the sharpest photo highlighted. You can choose between three similarity levels to control how closely the photos need to match.
- You can now import photos and videos directly from memory cards or any other folder. FerrumPix can organize them by shooting date, copy them into the current folder or use a custom destination with placeholders for the year, date or camera. Every copied file is checked against its original to make sure nothing went wrong. Files on the memory card are never changed, and existing files at the destination won't be overwritten.
- Two new settings let you save manually added keywords directly inside JPEG, PNG and WebP files, using XMP, IPTC or both. You can choose to write them when adding keywords or when saving and exporting photos. AI-generated keywords are kept separate and are never embedded in the image files.
- You can now back up your catalogue, Immich and Nextcloud indexes, settings, favourites and saved searches into a ZIP file. Each part can be restored separately, and FerrumPix automatically backs up your current data before restoring anything. Server passwords are only included if you explicitly choose to save them. If you're moving to another computer, you can also adjust the folder paths to match where your photos are stored on the new system.
- Cleaning the database is now safer when external drives aren't connected. FerrumPix no longer treats photos on disconnected drives as deleted, so their ratings, keywords and assigned people are preserved. If you do want to remove those entries, FerrumPix will ask you separately for each affected drive.
- Dehaze now removes haze more effectively, bringing back contrast and deeper blacks. Adding haze also looks more natural, creating a soft veil that follows the image rather than simply washing it out. Shadows and Highlights now adapt better to each photo and work together more smoothly, while tone curves preserve more natural colours, especially in skin tones.
- There are several smaller fixes as well. Removing photos from an Immich or Nextcloud album now only removes them from that album, without deleting the actual files. Thumbnails in large folders no longer stay dark, and Huawei HEIC photos now show their camera information below the thumbnail. Selected text remains readable with bright accent colours, and the Save As dialog is now wider and easier to use.
